Our Story & Approach To Therapy
We’re Jacqui and David, and we created Being in Psychotherapy because we wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of good therapy. Our shared passion for counselling brought us together, giving you the option of working one-to-one with either of us—or benefiting from both our perspectives in group sessions.
We don’t practice behavioral therapy. We find that life can slip away when we become too fixated on “what” we’re doing and “how” we’re doing it—when “I should do this, I should do that” becomes all we hear. Of course, our actions matter, but they can drown out the deeper experience of simply being. Our approach is about returning to that sense of presence, which is why we call it Being in Psychotherapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
At Being In Psychotherapy, we offer both counselling and psychotherapy, tailored to your needs. While the two terms are often used interchangeably, they have key differences in depth, focus, and duration.
Counselling: Short-Term, Focused Support
Counselling is typically a short-term process that helps with specific life challenges—stress, grief, relationships, or major transitions. It is practical and solution-focused, offering guidance and coping strategies to navigate immediate difficulties. If you need support with a particular issue and want a structured space to explore it, counselling may be right for you.
Psychotherapy: A Deeper Exploration
Psychotherapy is a longer-term process that works at a deeper level, addressing recurring patterns, emotional wounds, or complex mental health concerns. It explores how past experiences shape present struggles, helping you understand and transform deep-seated ways of thinking, feeling, and relating. If you’re seeking personal growth, emotional insight, or lasting change, psychotherapy provides the space for deeper exploration.
Which One Do I Need?
There’s no rigid boundary between the two. Many people begin with counselling and transition into psychotherapy as they discover deeper aspects of their experiences. At Being In Psychotherapy, we offer both approaches and can discuss what best suits your needs.
